Peas and Carrots....

I'm not a cruchy attatchment parenting Momma. Sure we co-sleep for the periodic weekend nap, and I baby wear as much as possible, feed on demand, and do not use cry it out...but after that our similarities diverge. So why then would I have decided in the months before Rocky even knew what a spoon was that when the time came to use one that I'd make as much of his food as possible? Heck, I hate cooking for Barney and I...what made me think that I'd want to cook for the baby? Who knows...but I did it.

Apples, Carrots, Peas, Mangos, and Beats were all purchased with the intent of making a Gerber like puree. I first read recipies which seemed very similar no matter what you were making. Boil, puree, place in container and refridgerate or freeze. I then learned how long certain kinds of foods would freeze, and which ones would freeze, but not freeze as well (beats for example)as the rest. Then I set out making them, and now at the pediatricians suggestions and encouragement Rocky is eating them.

The most labor intensive thus far I've discovered are peas. You boil them, puree them, and then as the label on a pre made jar suggests-strain them. You see, peas have a skin and if you don't strain them well I imagine that wouldn't be good for an infant who has just figured out what food is...especially one who is as uncertain about this as Rocky was...
His first spoonful was promptly spit out Excorcist style all over the tray, himself, and some over spray on me. I however am not one to give up which lead him to decide that maybe, just maybe I wasn't trying to poison him...and then I wasn't able to get it in there fast enough.
Finally after a few minutes and many spoonfuls Rocky decided that Mommy just couldn't possibly be feeding him fast enough so he needed to do it himself
Which ultimately lead to the decision that while he isn't ready to try green eggs and ham just yet that green peas aren't so bad after all...
and this is good because for the next three days this is all he is getting for solid foods...and then...we move on to beats...
